WEEE Directive Customer Information

In order for Essilor to fully meet its’ environmental obligations, we now comply with this recently introduced legislation. This information is provided in order to inform our customers on the following legislation applicable since January 2007. Directive 2002/96/EC on Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment (WEEE) SI 2006 Number 3289.

These regulations have been implemented in order to -
• Reduce the waste from electrical and electronic equipment
• Encourage separate collection of the waste from such equipment
• Encourage treatment, reuse, recovery, recycling and sound environmental disposal
• Make producers responsible for the environmental impact of their products
• Improve the environmental performance of all those involved during the product lifecyle.

The following label is applied to each piece of equipment to inform you that when it is redundant, it should not be put to mixed waste and should be handled separately.

 

The equipment supplied by Essilor Ltd is classified as Category 6. Essilor Ltd is registered with Comply Direct. All supplied equipment also complies with Directive 2002/05/EC on the Restriction of the Use of Certain Hazardous Substances in the EU (SI 2005 Number 2748) restricting use of certain hazardous substances.

There are no significant environmental impacts relating to the correct installation and normal use of electronic and electrical equipment supplied by Essilor Ltd. Essilor Ltd carry the financial and operating responsibility for the collection, treatment and disposal of WEEE from our customers and have implemented procedures which ensure that all wastes are handled sensitively with minimal environmental impact.

As an Essilor Customer what should we do?

If you no longer have use for electrical or electronic equipment originally supplied after August 13th 2005 by Essilor Ltd then please contact Essilor to arrange for a collection from your premises. Our contact number is 01454 423451. Essilor will then ensure that this obligated WEEE is handled, treated and recycled in line with the requirements of the UK WEEE Regulations.

If you have WEEE for disposal that you originally purchased before August 13th 2005 and you are wanting to replace this equipment purchase on a one for one like for like basis then Essilor ltd will again arrange for such WEEE to be collected and handled accordingly with its obligation as a Producer under the UK WEEE Regulations. For all equipment that you have purchased before August 13th 2005 which you are not replacing then your company as the business end user is responsible for disposal but please feel free to contact Essilor Ltd for advice and assistance in such circumstances.

It should also be pointed out that Essilor Ltd has no responsibility to collect non Essilor Ltd branded electrical and electronic equipment that you have purchased after August 13th 2005. If you would like further information then please contact Essilor Ltd on 01454 423451.
